The 94 Elements project is live and it’s amazing. It’s “a global filmmaking project exploring our lives through the lens of the elements, from Hydrogen to Plutonium,” and it’s being crowd funded, so consider supporting if you can. I can’t tell you how excited I am to finally announce this! Brent Chesanek’s feature film CITY WORLD is premiering the opening weekend of the 2012 Seattle International Film Festival. (I composed the score.) I’ve been working on this with Brent for over three years now, so I’m super happy to be able to finally share it with the world. Both Brent and I will be in Seattle for the screenings, May 19 and 20, so please get your tickets now and come hang out with us!

Angela: An Icon Reflects, Pratibha Parmar’s film about civil rights activist Angela Davis (featuring an original score by me) premiered at the 26th BFI London Lesbian & Gay Film Festival this evening. It is a companion film to Parmar’s classic documentary, A Place of Rage, and will be included on the newly remastered film’s DVD release later this year. If you were there, I hope you enjoyed it! Hello. Just checking in.

I’ve been pretty busy lately, working on the scores for three (very) different films, plus a few smaller projects, but I’ve started work on a newh album, too. Look for something new maybe by the summer? No promises, but still.

Cartoon Network premiered a documentary about bullying this past Sunday night called Speak Up. The program featured a song from my album Preludes, which is neat, both because they liked it enough to use it and because they didn’t actually ask my permission. That’s not a bad thing, mind you. The song, like all of the songs on my albums, is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution license, so anyone is welcome to use it for any project as long as they give credit (which they did). It’s just cool to see a program on a major cable network taking advantage of Creative Commons-licensed music. It’s still the norm for television programs to purchase royalty-free tracks or to license songs, so I guess that’s one small example of how the Creative Commons movement is growing.

UPDATE: So this ended up winning the competition, believe it or not (which wasn’t my goal), so that’s cool! Vimeo is cool. I got a Plus membership out of it, so maybe I’ll make some more stuff soon.
